Yoga & Meditation

what is yoga?

What most people know of yoga is that it incorporates exercises (poses called Assana’s) and breathing. All of our practices of yoga and meditation will include this. But to understand yoga we’d have to be clear. The poses and breathing is only a tool for something much bigger. Yoga is a science, a way of living, it is a path of practice with great depth.

It will awaken our bodies, our hearts and minds and we can tune ourselves to the flow of life. We embrace an integral path of body, mind and soul through an integrated practice of asana, breathing, meditation, study, silence, creativity, nature and more.

The true benefits of yoga are beyond words to describe and the only way to understand is to experience. Come to Ground Zero and we will introduce you to the path, and share the journey together.

yoga classes

Our practices are both accessible and challenging for all ages and levels of experience.

For yoga classes we advise you to wear loose fitting, breathing clothes that will cover the body even if we are practising inversions like headstand or handstand.

The practice will involve :-

Simple postures held for extended time with a focus on breath, awareness and grounding in order to cleanse our physical, emotional and mental bodies, release blockages and cultivate willpower and inner strength by working through resistance.

What the true goal of yoga is, is not easy to describe in words. Yet many have tried and patanjali speaks of it in the yoga sutra’s, one of the most influential writings of yoga.

He describes the goal as: “sthira sukham asanam.” which freely translates to: “Being stable and comfortable in a pose”.

This is pointing at the same as what we know in martial arts as: “Being comfortable in uncomfortable situations.”

This is for Ground Zero and its founders the reason to integrate yoga and martial arts practices. Because both paths lead to the same goal.

Being able to flow with life, no matter how challenging it becomes.

Meditation

Meditation is a practice in which an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

The value of meditation can only be shared through direct experience, words wouldn’t do justice, come and try one of our meditation classes for yourself.

breathwork

At Ground Zero breathwork has a fundamental position, as a practice on its own, and as part of the movement of both Yoga and Martial Arts. Our breath and movement are connected and the harmony of both is where mastery shows. During classes we perform breathwork as we are both inspired by ancient tradition (Pranayama) and contemporary practice (Wim Hof Method, Holotropic Breathing)

ice baths

Ground Zero has a cold plunge, a bath that we fill with ice and then sit in for 3-5 minutes as a test of endurance and with massive health benefits.

We have 3 ice plunge sessions a week after our warrior movement and it costs $2.5 each. Private sessions can be arranged and are $20/200kg or $30/$300kg.

If you want a private ice bath please order at least one hour in advance so ice can be ordered and the bath can be prepared on time.
